Others Information

PRINCIPLE

In an alkaline solution, the zinc ions of the sample will produce a red coloured complex with 2- (5 – bromo – 2 – pyridylazo) – 5 – [- N – propyl -N-(3-sulfopropyl) amino] – phenol, sodium salt (5 – Br – PAPS).

The colour intensity at 560 nm is directly proportional to the zinc ions concentration present in the sample.

DIAGNOSTIC USE

Zinc deficiency causes growth retardation and delayed sexual maturation. High levels of zinc in urine can be found when there is an alteration in the zinc – protein transport binding (nephrosis, alcoholic cirrhosis or penicillin treatment).

Single test result could not be used to make a clinical diagnosis. It should integrate clinical and laboratory data.
